The inspiration is the female runners of the marathon of Amsterdam passing my studio every year. The first, the fastest, seem to hover above the road, their feet hardly touch the ground.
The Marathon is a contemporary art painting made in a new style. Using acrylic, oil paint pigments and embroidery's with pearl buttons on linen.
The image shows a contemporary (fairy)tale. It is quite surreal to see the runners in the cityscape. It looks like they are torn from their roots and run like fragile creatures in a technical industrial man-made environment.
